Media praise and word of mouth have perfectly worked; Le Mans Classic has definitely taken off…
The start, probably one of the Le Mans Classic highlights, is given by 7 former 24 Hours winners who –save late Maurice Trintignant- are also competing in the event: Jürgen Barth, Jean Guichet, Johnny Herbert, Phil Hill, Jean Pierre Jaussaud and Henri Pescarolo.
Among the personalities entered, we can quote Mark Knopfler, Adrian Newey and the first appearance of French President Nicolas Sarkozy's future Prime Minister, François Fillon.
The car branded with the "Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque" charity colours adds a humorous hint to this second event. Indeed, underwear designer Chantal Thomass takes over photographer Bettina Rheims (in 2002) to design a very glamorous E Type livery!
A new record is also broken with the highest European bid ever for the Bentley Speed 6 built in 1930 and victorious in Le Mans the very same year.
The "Clubs" et "Le Mans 24 Hours Club" contests take off. (Please click on to see the results)
