| UNDERSTAND THE EVENT | What is Le Mans Classic? Created in 2002 by Peter Auto, in association with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, Le Mans Classic offers a wonderful retrospective of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Acclaimed from its very first edition, Le Mans Classic has continued to grow and has become the largest gathering of vintage cars, with nearly 700 race cars on the track and more than 9,000 classic cars. During four days of festivities, enthusiasts and amateurs will be able to travel back in time, not only through the races, but also through the shows and entertainment that will punctuate the weekend! |
| How many days does the event last? The event will take place over 4 days, from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026. |
| What is the difference between Le Mans Classic and the 24 Hours of Le Mans? Le Mans Classic is a retrospective of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Since 2002, the event has celebrated the heritage of the Le Mans race with race cars from 1923 (the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans) to 2015 (former 24 Hours prototypes). The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a 24-hour endurance race bringing together more than 60 modern cars, divided into three categories: Hypercars, LMP2 and LMGT3. This legendary event is one of the rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). |
| How often does Le Mans Classic take place? From 2026, Le Mans Classic will become an annual event, allowing enthusiasts to relive the Le Mans legend every year. Two formats will alternate: Le Mans Classic Legend in 2026 (dedicated to cars from 1975 to 2015), followed by Le Mans Classic Heritage in 2027 (dedicated to cars from 1923 to 1974) |
| What is the difference between Le Mans Classic Legend and Le Mans Classic Heritage? Le Mans Classic Legend, which will take place from 2026 onwards, will bring back the golden age of endurance racing from 1975 to 2015, a time of technological daring and contemporary duels. Le Mans Classic Heritage, which will take place from 2027 onwards, will take spectators back to the golden age of pioneers, from 1923 to 1974, when everything was still being invented with courage and heroism. |
| What is the concept behind the grids? The grids are organized by era, grouping cars from the same period so they compete with models of similar performance. Each grid represents a specific chapter in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This structure showcases the technological and stylistic evolution of the race while ensuring balanced and exciting competition. |
| Which cars are participating in the event? On the track: In 2026, Le Mans Classic Legend will bring together race cars from 1975 to 2015. In 2027, Le Mans Classic Heritage will gather race cars from 1923 to 1974. In the paddock: There are also cars from clubs and collectors, which form the beating heart of this celebration of motoring. Brand clubs from around the world offer a unique overview of the history and expertise of manufacturers, while multi-brand clubs form a living mosaic tracing the evolution of the automobile through the ages. Alongside these organized communities, independent collectors also find their place thanks to the Collection Area, which welcomes all vintage and prestige cars not affiliated with a club. Together, they form a large family of enthusiasts, enthusiastic guardians of automotive memory and essential players in the magic of Le Mans Classic. |
| Are these real races or demonstrations? Yes, these are real races. Le Mans Classic is not a demonstration event: the grids compete in genuine racing sessions on the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit. The cars run at a strong pace, the drivers are timed, and each grid produces an official classification. The spirit remains that of historic racing, with passion, heritage preservation and safety as priorities. | |
| When do the races take place? The Le Mans Classic races run throughout the entire weekend, both during the day and at night. Each grid has several sessions: practice, qualifying, and multiple race legs scheduled between Saturday and Sunday. The detailed timetable is released ahead of the event so everyone can follow the grids they are interested in. |
| Are there any activities outside of the races? Yes, the show goes beyond the track! Once again this year, the village will be buzzing with numerous activities and exhibitions to delight young and old alike: outdoor cinema, musical entertainment, autograph sessions, exhibitors, motorcycle shows, and concerts to keep the audience dancing until the end of the night! |
| Who can take part in Le Mans Classic? Le Mans Classic is open to owners of cars that officially raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1923 and 1981, or to identical models compliant with the period. Drivers must hold a valid racing licence and meet all sporting and safety requirements set by the event. |
| Is there a dress code or a theme to follow? There is no mandatory dress code for attending Le Mans Classic. However, many spectators enjoy the event’s vintage atmosphere and choose to wear retro outfits inspired by the eras represented. It’s entirely optional: everyone is free to come dressed however they like, with or without a historical touch. |
